Just recently in Science Daily Sep. 14, 2011), was published an article on the fact well known that Dams and weirs have a stronger impact on the ecosystem of watercourses than was previously realized. I think it is well known and often documented in the past what the Scientists from the Technische Universitaet Muenchen have demonstrated now on the basis of a survey they have done of five rivers in the catchment areas of the Elbe, Rhine/Main, and Danube. But unfortunately very little, if nothing, has been done on a worldwide scale to reduce the constant decline of freshwater species in dams, or elsewhere, The article can be seen at: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/09/110914143638.htm
